Auxiliary Constable Program
The town of Altona places a high priority on the building of partnerships between the Police and the community. One such partnership is the Auxiliary Constable program.
The Auxiliary Constable program is a volunteer initiative intended to enhance community policing by training volunteers to provide assistance to the police during the performance of their duties. Their assistance is complementary and the purpose of the program is not to replace regular Police officers.
The duties of the Auxiliary Constable program encompass assisting in the delivery of community policing programs, traffic control, and accompanying officers on patrol.
Auxiliary Constables are dressed in uniforms similar to the Police Service and wear Auxiliary Constable shoulder flashes, and although sworn as Peace Officers, can only exercise those powers when on duty and under the direct supervision of a Regular Member.
The town of Altona currently has four Auxiliary Constables who volunteer their time.
